A Hands-On Open Day Experience at Sanctus International School

On April 25th, Sanctus International School welcomed families to a vibrant and engaging Open Day in Klang, Selangor, where learning came alive in ways that go far beyond textbooks and traditional classrooms.

One of the highlights of the day was our interactive culinary workshop, where visiting students had the opportunity to step into the role of young chefs—creating their very own customised pizzas from scratch. But beyond the fun and delicious results, this activity represented something much more meaningful: our commitment to learning beyond the classroom.

In today’s fast-evolving world, education is no longer just about memorisation or exam performance. Parents are increasingly looking for schools that prioritise holistic development, helping children grow not only academically, but socially, emotionally, and creatively.

Traditional classroom settings can sometimes create pressure—where students feel that success is defined solely by grades. While academic excellence remains important, an overemphasis on performance can lead to anxiety and disengagement from learning.

By incorporating hands-on learning activities, students are given the chance to:

Rediscover the joy of learning in a low-pressure environment, explore concepts in a practical, engaging way, develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and Build confidence through experimentation and creativity.

In today’s educational landscape, many parents and educators are increasingly concerned about what some are calling a growing education crisis in Malaysia. With the return of standardized assessments and an ongoing emphasis on academic results, there are rising concerns about high-stakes pressure on students at an increasingly young age. Experts have cautioned that an exam-heavy approach can lead to unnecessary stress and anxiety, potentially impacting both learning outcomes and student wellbeing.

This is why the conversation around education in Malaysia is shifting. With growing concerns about student stress, exam pressure, and disengagement, schools are being challenged to rethink how learning is delivered—moving beyond rote learning towards experiences that are meaningful, engaging, and human-centered.
